Pool Lifeguard

Pool Lifeguards are an essential part of our team who ensure that pool users are safe at all times by patrolling designated pool areas in accordance with the Operations Supervisor’s instructions, and ensuring pool users follow Aquatic Centre rules and safety requirements. Lifeguarding is a rewarding job with flexible hours, and provides opportunities to learn lifelong skills. Lifeguards interact with a wide variety of people on a daily basis, providing opportunities to build communication and interpersonal skills. You'll also be trained to respond to emergency situations by making quick decisions and staying calm under pressure, skills which are transferrable to any career you might be looking to pursue in the future.

Lifeguarding is a great position to kick start a career in aquatics. Experience in a lifeguard position can help you gain the skills required to become a supervisor, then a duty manager, and eventually even a centre manager. How to become a learn to swim instructor

Qualification required: Certificate SISSS00112 Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (Swim Teacher course information)

Minimum age: 16 years old

Course outline: Self-paced online knowledge component followed by a 1-day practical face to face workshop. Up to 20 hours on the job supervised teaching hours prior to obtaining full certificate.

How to become a Pool Lifeguard 

Qualification required: Certificate SISSS00129 Pool Lifeguard (Pool Lifeguard course information)

Minimum age: 16 years old

Pre-requisites: Current first aid qualification, able to swim 200m in 6 minutes

Course outline: Pre-course theory workbook followed by 2 days of face-to-face training
