Tricky waste items
To avoid the creation of waste, the most efficient and effective option is to avoid the creation of waste, then reuse and recycle as much as possible and throw things away as a last resort.
Together with retailers, businesses and other organisations, Inner West Council offers recycling services for certain waste items that can't go in to your household bins. These can be electronic waste items, chemicals, bulky household items, sharps and other items that are hard to recycle. Putting these items in your household bin can be dangerous and hazardous to you and others as well as the environment. Please refer to our offerings below for those items or contact us with your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A-Z: where does it go?
If you have a tricky item your are not sure how to dispose of, refer to our A-Z: What goes where? Your item might be recyclable using your recycling bin or can be recycled or reused through a community organisation or a charity.
Community Recycling Centre
The Community Recycling Centre in Leichardt is open for residents on weekends and offers the drop off of some tricky waste items. Please refer to the list of accepted items before visiting the centre. We want to avoid disappointment in case items cannot be accepted.
Drop off events
Council has regular events for residents to drop off household chemicals and e-waste in a convenient and safe drive-through set up. Refer to our regularly updated drop off events list.
Apply for a skip bin
When you need to hire a waste container for demolition, construction or a large amount of waste and it cannot fit within your property boundaries, you must obtain a permit to place the bin on Council's roads and footpaths.
