Leichhardt Oval to host first ever NRLW Semi-Finals this Sunday

Thursday, 31 March 2022

Leichhardt Oval has once again been chosen to host a major sporting event with a “Super Sunday” double header in the first ever NRLW semi-finals series on Sunday April 3.

This follows closely on the heels of the iconic ground being chosen as the home ground for the NSW Waratahs in 2022 as well as a training site for the FIFA women’s World Cup in 2023.

In a statement NRL CEO Andrew Abdo acknowledged the unique character of Leichhardt Oval, saying, “We are excited to be playing semi-finals in the NRLW for the first time and even more so that we’ve been able to create a stand-alone double header at one of the game’s most iconic suburban venues.”

Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said, “Leichhardt Oval holds a special place in the heart of the people of the Inner West and the wider Australian sporting public. We are delighted that the NRL has chosen this historic ground as the venue for such an historic event.”

“While other suburban grounds are being showered with NSW Government funds, Leichhardt Oval continues to be overlooked yet is the venue of choice for iconic events like this and for organisations like the NSW Waratahs, Sydney FC and FIFA.”

Both games, to be played at midday and 1.45pm, will be broadcast live on the Nine Network, Fox Sports and Sky NZ.
