Artists invited to take part in Creative Trails

Wednesday 11 March 2020

Applications are invited from studios, galleries and artist-run initiatives (ARIs) for Midjuburi (Marrickville ward) Creative Trails weekend on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August 2020.

In 2020, Midjuburi Creative Trails will be held in conjunction with EDGE Sydenham.

Applications from creative spaces located in Tempe, Sydenham, Marrickville, St Peters and Dulwich Hill are now invited.

Creative Trails is an opportunity for the public to engage with the Inner Wests’ thriving independent arts scene, to meet local artists and makers, view art in progress and purchase art at studio prices.

Hundreds of people spend the weekend discovering art in hidden artists’ studios, independent galleries and quirky artist run initiatives, and taking part in various workshops.

Carmel Byrne from Scratch Art Space has been participating in Creative Trails since 2008.

“We were just studios at that time and as we’ve grown we’ve evolved our activities for the event.

“I enjoy the variety we can offer now that we have a gallery, great studio artists, and the performers, especially now that the Performance Artists spread themselves throughout the whole warehouse. Every nook and cranny you’ll find someone doing something a little strange.

“The event definitely raises our profile and helps us grow as a business in a notoriously challenging industry.

“I would absolutely recommend joining in. Conjuring creative ways to engage with the audience as it moves through your space is a fun challenge,” Carmel said.

Midjuburi Creative Trails applications close at midday on Monday 23 March 2020.
