Right to Know Week NSW

Inner West Council is proud to support Right to Know Week NSW 2019 as an official Right to Know Week champion.

Right to Know Week NSW takes place from 30 September to 6 October this year, and aims to raise awareness of each individual's right of access to government information and to promote open, transparent government.

The key object of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) is to advance a system of responsible and representative government that is open, accountable, fair and effective. The GIPA Act provides individuals with the right to access most government information held by government agencies, state-owned corporations, local councils, ministers and their staff, and universities.

This year's theme is Access to Information: Leaving no one behind in the digital age, which focuses on the ways accessing government information has not only changed, but become more efficient with the introduction of better digital technologies.

Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Tydd said, "Right to Know Week is a great opportunity to promote citizens’ right to access government information in NSW. I encourage everyone to consider this right."

Inner West Council supports proactive and open access to information for NSW citizens. Learn more here about your right to access government information.
