Joining the library is free and easy to do. Everyone is welcome – you don't need to live in the Inner West Council area to join.

How to join

Join in person

See the staff at the information desk to join the library. It only takes a couple of minutes to join, and you will receive your card on the spot and be able to start borrowing and using online resources.

You will need to bring proof of identification with you as outlined below.

Join online

Complete this online form to join the library.

After completing the form, you will be issued with a temporary membership number. Then visit either the Ashfield or Haberfield branch within 3 months to collect your card so you can start borrowing and using online resources. You will need to bring proof of identification with you as outlined below.

Identification

Acceptable identification includes a driver's licence, bills, official letters from a government department, or a concession card.

People under 18 years of age will need a parent or guardian to complete the registration and show identification.

People under 18 years of age will need a parent or guardian to complete the registration and show identification.

When joining the library you will need to show the following identification:

  • Your driver's licence

*OR*

  • One item each from list 1 *and* list 2:

List 1

  • Bank statement, passbook or cheque book showing current address
  • Lease agreement
  • Phone/water/power bill showing current address (dated within the last 3 months)
  • Council rates notice
  • Student card with current address
  • Health care card
  • Pension card
  • Social security card with current address
  • Motor registration with current address
  • Private health insurance card showing current address

List 2

  • Credit card
  • Passport
  • Student card
  • 18+ card
  • Defence Force ID
  • Photo identification tag

People under 16 years of age will need a parent or guardian to sign an application form and bring a Medicare card with the child's name on it, as well as their own identification from list 1 above.
