Milly Dent

Artist Bio

Following studies of a Bachelor of Design from UNSWAD, Milly Dent has undertaken substantial experimentation, and in doing so developed new and innovative approaches to ceramic making. Her pursued interest in the history and uses of porcelain has lead her to residencies in Japan; Italy and China. At its core, Dent's work is inspired by her affinity and relationship with the ocean and tidal pools where she spends her time. She is an ambassador for Take 3 for the Sea, an environmental campaign aimed at reducing plastic pollution in our oceans. Dent's work has been exhibited or sold at The NGV, The MCA, Manly Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art Queensland, The ADC and 22 other stockists and galleries locally and internationally.

Current Work and Inspiration
Milly Dent is a contemporary ceramic artist and designer who explores the material of porcelain through her unique approach to crafting handmade ceramic tableware, sculpture and lighting. With a deep commitment to countering the prevalent culture of disposability, reimagining everyday objects through her artistic processes. She uses local materials to create work inspired by her specific interest in the ocean, and the way it informs her life and practise as an artist.

While best known for her use of porcelain, her material of choice is not limited to porcelain. Dent works with paper, stoneware and brass as well as glass techniques in her practice.
