International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2026 - 21st March
We are excited to announce that Council will be running the Elimination of Racial Discrimination EOI again in 2026!
Council is seeking an Expression of Interest (EOI) from local community organisations or groups to apply for funds to raise awareness of and work towards the elimination of racial discrimination. Community organisations can apply for up to $5,000 to run a project in the months of March and April 2026.
Objectives
Organisations and community groups are invited to apply for funds to develop a project that meets at least one of the following objectives:
- Raise awareness of racial discrimination and its harmful impacts
- Increase the knowledge and skills of local community members to recognise and address racism
- Increase participation, inclusion & visibility of people from culturally diverse backgrounds
- Increase respect for and celebration of cultural diversity in our community
We also highly recommend that your application considers the following:
- A demonstrated commitment to ensuring the project is accessible and inclusive so that everyone can participate fully and equally

OPENS: Wednesday 22 October 2025 – 9am
CLOSES: Monday 15 December 2025 - 11.59pm
Eligibility Criteria / Who can apply
- Community organisations/not for profit organisations/community groups/charities*.
- Applicants must be based in the Inner West and all projects must be undertaken in the Inner West local government area and provide benefit to the local Inner West community.
- Only one application per organisation/group is permitted (no duplicate applications or projects will be accepted).
- All applications must be submitted online through Smartygrants.
- Successful applicants will be required to enter into a contract with Council and to supply Public Liability Insurance (a minimum of
$20,000,000) If working with children or young people, a valid Working With Children Check must be attached with the application.
- If you have an outstanding funding agreement with Council and this has not been acquitted, you are ineligible to apply
- *Unincorporated groups must be auspiced** by an incorporated organisation.
**An Auspice arrangement is where a Not For Profit Organisation has agreed to support you deliver this project. They may ask to manage the funds, work closely with you to deliver the project and provide you with their insurance.

- Project Brief: Gaysian Stories is a storytelling event that features prominent LGBTQI+ and Asian speakers curated to share stories of adversity and triumphs in their careers; with a special focus on diversity, inclusion and overcoming racial discrimination in their respective fields.
- Project Brief: A workshop to draw on the strength of our Australian unity and foster a sense of connectedness among migrant communities, empowering people to fight racism and encourage them to be a voice for change.
- Project Brief: A series of interviews with diverse people from the Inner West on belonging and exclusion in Australia and aims audiences yearning to end racism and to learn about allyship.

Our Voices, Our Stories
To mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2023, 'Our Voices, Our Stories' was held at Marrickville Library on 21 March 2023, curated and hosted by Kween G. This Inner West Council event featured a series of incredible community artists sharing their lived experiences of racism through spoken word, music, poetry, film and food. Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2022
Inner West Council marks the Internatioanl Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination annually to raise awareness about racism and the harmful impacts it can have on the health and wellbeing of people in our community.
