International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2024

Council is seeking an Expression of Interest (EOI) from local community organisations or groups to apply for funds to raise awareness of racial discrimination.

Community organisations can apply for up to $5,000 to run a project in the month of March 2024. All projects must have outcomes of building capacity, raising awareness of racial discrimination, and bringing community together.  

Applications are now closed.

Objectives of the EOI:

  • Raise awareness and advocacy regarding racial discrimination  
  • Facilitate capacity building for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities  
  • Increase racial literacy across all communities  
  • Celebrate cultural diversity and participation for people from diverse backgrounds 
  • Ensure project is affordable and accessible to the Inner West community

REFUGEE WEEK 2023 

 The Spirit of Welcome Community Festival - Sunday 18 June 2023

Time12 – 4pm VenueCommunity Refugee Welcome Centre – Callan Park, Building, 504 Wharf Rd, Lilyfield 
Settlement Services International is hosting the Spirit of Welcome event in partnership with Inner West Council. Spirit of Welcome is a cross-cultural and family friendly event which will showcase the cultural and artistic contributions refugees make to their new home and is a celebration and acknowledgment of our rich cultural and linguistic diversity.
The event will be a unique platform for diverse communities to come together through skill-sharing and cultural exchange. Specifically, the festival will encourage active participation and engagement of Inner West locals and newly arrived communities through the variety of workshops, performances, and activities.

Our Voices, Our Stories

To mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2023, 'Our Voices, Our Stories' was held at Marrickville Library on 21 March 2023, curated and hosted by Kween G. This Inner West Council event featured a series of incredible community artists sharing their lived experiences of racism through spoken word, music, poetry, film and food.
