Get ready as Bairro Português returns to the streets of Petersham in 2024!

Bairro Português celebrates the Portuguese cultural heritage of Petersham in this vibrant street festival featuring traditional and contemporary food and entertainment, encouraging local and cultural connection.
With licensed bars serving wines, beer and sangria, the invitation is open to for all to celebrate Petersham's history and residents.

Celebrate the good life as the streets of Petersham will be bursting with energy and the tantalising aromas of Portuguese cuisine.

3:10pm after the Official Welcome to Country

Drawing inspiration from Fado and Folk tunes of the Iberian Peninsula and navigating the seas to Cape Verde and Brazil, Alma will take you on a soulful journey from traditional to modern and original Portuguese song. Bringing you the sweetest sounds of Portugal and more, Alma will appease all of your "saudades".

Grupo Folclorico Da Madeira Inc

The group was first formed in 1999 and they have been performing in all parts of Australia including Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra. They have on average, 24 performers ranging from 4 years to 70 years of age. The songs and dances are traditional folk music originally from the Island of Madeira.

Aldeias De Portugal Folkloric Dancing Group

Since the beginning, Aldeias de Portugal has promoted the Portuguese culture not only to the Portuguese community but also to other ethnic communities. With the dedication of the committee, members and supports, Aldeias de Portugal has been able to represent the Portuguese culture in many cities around Australia including Canberra, Melbourne, Armidale, Cowra, Perth, Brisbane and even overseas in Macau.

Portuguese Concert Band

The band was formed by a passionate group of musicians with a shared love of Portuguese music. All of their songs are sung in Portuguese with some influences deriving from popular European songs. The Portuguese Concert Band has been performing at the Bairro Portugues Festival for the past ten years.

The Grupo Folclorico Cultural Portugues de Sydney started in 1998. They have served the community showing its culture and traditions from different regions of Portugal, with its songs, dances and costumes. They have been apart of the local Portuguese community for 25 years.

Louzco Fouzco

Louzco Fouzco formed at the Casa do Benfica as part of the Galician Association of Sydney (Centro Galego), and regularly performs at Casa do Benfica Marrickville. The Galician Gaita is a traditional instrument in Portugal as well as Galicia, and the shared repertoire knows no borders.

Fado In Australia

Fado In Australia is a Sydney based Portuguese band formed 16 years ago thanks to the passion of Portuguese immigrants who incredibly missed their native musical roots and decided to bring it back to the Australian Portuguese community. Theirs is a unique Iberian musical melting pot, blending elements from Moorish, African, and Brazilian, performing traditional Fado styles ranging from the classics to now.
