Volunteer spotlight July 2023
Name: Kay Harris
Club: Leichhardt Saints Football Club
Current position: Administrator and Secretary
What tasks do you undertake for your club?
I’m involved in a very diverse range of tasks for Saints – everything from organising fields and various programs such as MiniRoos KickOff and Development Clinics,, liaising with Council , writing and submitting grants, dealing with sponsorships. There are many moving parts in running a community club, so never a dull moment. Luckily for me, we have a great Committee to assist!
When did you start being involved with the club?
I joined Saints as a “soccer mum” around 2005 when my children first joined. I did a few years of managing a team, and my husband coached our girls’ team for 9 years. I started working as the Administrator in 2019 and joined the Executive Committee as Secretary later that year.
Why are you involved with your club?
Community football, and the Saints, has given us such joy as a family over many years. We’ve made great friends through various football teams and always loved watching our kids play and be involved in team sport. I am passionate about keeping all our kids healthy, I just love to see them participating. As they say, “It takes a village to raise a child” - I want to be part of that village!
What aspirations does the club have for the future?
Leichhardt Saints is a wonderful community Club and our aspiration is to provide every member with a great experience. We really do our best to achieve this – to make all feel welcome and included, and to feel proud to be part of the Saints community.
Please tell us more about your women's football program
We started running the King George Park Summer Soccer program in 2019 and it’s gone from strength to strength. With the recent refurbishments, we now have capacity to take on even more teams. The program is managed and run by women, for women and focuses on fun, fitness and friendship.
