SecondHand Saturdays are giant neighbourhood garage sale held in individual households. SecondHand Saturday commenced in the year 2000 and has run each year ever since. It has now held over 3,000 garage sales!
SecondHand Saturday is about promoting the value of resource conservation and reducing waste to landfill, whilst making a dollar or two and meeting your neighbours.
SecondHand Saturday 2017 is now over. Thanks to all participating households who held almost 200 sales!
Watch this space for future SecondHand Saturday events.
In the meantime, you can still support reuse by visiting the Garage Sale Trail or The Bower Collection & Rehoming Service and online store.
Residents will receive an information brochure in their letterbox approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the sale date for their suburb. Once you have registered for the SecondHand Saturday event your SecondHand Saturday poster will be posted to your letterbox approximately one week prior to your SecondHand Saturday event date.
You can also download the SecondHand Saturday Letterbox Poster (PDF 3.9MB)
Place this poster on your letterbox so shoppers know you are having a sale! Registered households (i.e. those holding a sale on the day) will be advertised in The Courier Tuesday issue and Ciao Magazine Friday issue. Your garage sale, i.e. street address, will be published on this website in the week of the SecondHand Saturday sale, together with a handy map of garage sale addresses. Your sale items will appear on the website only, they will not appear in the newspaper/magazine advertisements.
Happy SecondHand Saturday sale!
If you need to cancel your SecondHand Saturday sale please download the SecondHand Saturday Cancellation Poster (PDF 3.6MB) and place up in a suitable location in your property.
PLEASE NOTE: Your General Household Collection dates remain the same as per your yearly waste & recycling calendar.
Visit Collection Days for details or phone Council’s Customer Service Centre for your calendar. Council’s SecondHand Saturday is held 3 times each year via suburbs and is aimed at reuse of items (as opposed to disposal). Therefore your General Household Collection date may NOT align with your SecondHand Saturday event date.
