Bedwin Rd Construction of Cycleway Bridge

Project Objective:

The New WCX M5 interchange at St Peters includes a number of active transport measures including new and improved pedestrian/cycle paths for IWC, and form part of the WCX M5-St Peters Interchange Active Transport Works as a condition of the development consent for their project.

It includes the Mary Street to St Peters Station Cycleway with a bridge and extension at Bedwin Road over the railway fully funded by WCX/TfNSW) and delivered by IWC

Project description: 

Design and construction for the extension of the Cycling Bridge over the railway at Bedwin Road, with auxiliary works at St Peters. Minor road works Mary Street to St Peters Station Cycleway.

The new bridge is a strategic link for cyclists and improves the connectivity to the overall regional network, connecting the city to St Peters Railway Station and Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre. Council officers worked with Marrickville Bicycle User Group to assist in finalising the design.

The bridge over the railway at Bedwin Road is primarily a “Cable Bridge” for TransGrid in delivering the Powering Sydney’s Future Project (PFS). WCX and TfNSW have negotiated with TransGrid to place a cycleway over the top.

The project is fully funded by TfNSW & WCX.

Works also include Traffic Signals at Edinburgh Road.

Progress: Construction was completed in March 2023.
