Newtown Festival

Newtown Festival is one of our ongoing successful partnerships.

The Newtown Festival is an initiative of Newtown Neighbourhood Centre  (NNC). Council is a supporter of the Festival.

Newtown Festival is the principal fundraiser for Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, and has been held in Camperdown Memorial Rest Park on the second Sunday in November for the last 39 years.

Since its smaller beginnings the Festival has grown enormously and now attracts 50,000 across the day. It has become a flagship event of the Inner West, encapsulating the spirit of Newtown – one of Sydney’s most vibrant creative, conscientious, and inclusive communities.

Funds raised through the event go to providing community support services through the NNC.

Benefits to our community

Newtown Festival provides many community benefits.   The festival is run for free with a $5 voluntary donation. The events continues to build a strong, active, creative and inclusive community. The festival is a major fundraiser for the important community services that the NNC provides to Newtown and the wider Community including:

  • Boarding House Outreach Services to tackle homelessness issues.
  • Community Well Being Pop-Up Clinics to provide COVID19 testing and detailed health information to local boarding house residents.
  • Multicultural Aged Care Groups working with local seniors to promote social connection and nurture friendships especially through COVID19
  • Seniors Week Activities including a free line dancing event for over 60s.
  • One Step Shop Program bringing together a hub of essential services including Centrelink and Housing NSW, to provide face-to-face assistance and a free lunch to all members of the community.
  • Safe and Inclusive Spaces including the Rainbow Families Inner West Playgroup and Drag Storytime sessions.
