Development Compliance

Council's Development Compliance Officers investigate reports of unauthorised building works, illegal land use and dangerous or unsafe structures.

Our investigations are undertaken in line with Council's Compliance and Enforcement Policy (PDF 159.5KB), a guiding document for both Officers and the community to ensure transparency, accountability and consistency in our decision making.

Should an investigation confirm that an illegal activity has been undertaken, Council may issue formal Notices and Orders, on the spot fines or commence legal proceedings.

In cases, where enforcement action is disproportionate to the illegal activity, Council may consider mediation through the Good Neighbour Policy (PDF 467.7KB)

Prior to undertaking any building works or renovations, it is recommended that you speak with Council's Duty Planner who can provide general planning advice on policies and controls or whether formal approvals are needed.
