Inner West Deputy Mayor Mat Howard
Inner West Council will today commence a new ‘Street Blitz’ program to provide intensive maintenance and street cleaning of main streets across the Inner West.
The new Street Blitz program will see Council deploy up to 30 staff on a single day to repair, upgrade and intensively clean main streets.
The one-day blitz will start in Darling Street, Balmain on Thursday 26 June and include tree replanting, pruning, graffiti removal, and deep cleaning of street furniture and footpaths.
Council will expand the program to main streets across all five Inner West wards.
Inner West Deputy Mayor Mat Howard said Council understands the importance of creating clean and welcoming spaces where locals can come together to connect and enjoy their neighbourhood, whilst also supporting local businesses.
"Getting the basics right like clean main streets and well-kept public spaces is a top priority for Council," Clr Howard said.
"We have seen a similar maintenance and cleaning program work successfully in other local government areas, so we are keen to get started here in the Inner West."
The program in the Inner West will include:
- High pressure cleaning of footpaths
- Hand cleaning of furniture and removal of posters
- Maintenance and painting of street furniture
- Graffiti removal
- Replacement of all street and traffic signs
- Replacement of maintenance pit lids
- Street tree and ornamental garden replanting
- Street tree pruning
- Mulching and weeding of garden beds
Clr Howard said when we invest in improving and maintaining our local streets and shared spaces, we build civic pride and strengthen our sense of community.
