Council joins Gunawirra in Toy Drive for Pre-schools across NSW

Thursday 2 December 2021

Inner West citizens are asked to donate age-appropriate toys to pre-school aged children (3 to 6 years) in the toy drive organised by Gunawirra, a community-led organisation that works closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families, children and communities to reach their full potential.

Gunawirra focuses on supporting child development in the first five years of life.

“Inner West Council is very happy to join with Gunawirra and bring some joy to children in disadvantaged families doing it tough across NSW,” Inner West Mayor Rochelle Porteous said.

“I hope lots of Inner West residents will donate toys for the Gunawirra Toy Drive. Gunawirra is a wonderful organisation that does sterling work supporting the next generation of Aboriginal children to thrive when they start school.

“What better way to bring some joy to families doing it tough across NSW at this time of the year,” Mayor Porteous said.

Residents are asked to donate a toy appropriate for pre-school aged children (3 to 6 years).

Toys can be dropped between 8.30am - 5pm to customer service staff at any of the following locations until Friday 10 December 2021:

• Ashfield Customer Service Centre, 260 Liverpool Road Ashfield
• Leichhardt Customer Service Centre, 7-15 Wetherill Street Leichhardt
• Petersham Customer Service Centre, 2-14 Fisher Street Petersham

Please ensure all donations are unwrapped and new, as they will be given as Christmas presents.

For enquiries please call Graham Toomey on 0450 900 482.

Gunawirra will be distributing these toys to communities in time for Christmas.
