Council announces Arts Resilience grants

Tuesday 5 May 2020

Council assistance during the current Coronavirus pandemic has now been extended to the Inner West arts community.

Council’s Creative and Cultural Resilience Grants program is now open and accepting applications until 17 May 2020.

The program offers $300,000 in new grant funding to support the Inner West’s creative and cultural sector through the impacts of COVID19.

“The truth is that the arts sector has been smashed by the crisis and left out in the cold without any real income support for artists or financial support for the sector," said Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne.

“This funding from Council, drawn from what we would have spent on our EDGE program of festivals and activations, is a drop in the ocean but we are getting it out the door quickly as I know local artists need any financial support they can get right now."

Grants are available across two categories:

⦁ Artist and Creative Practitioner Grants for creative development, new work and adaptation projects for creatives (up to $5000)

⦁ Creative Spaces Grants to support survival and resilience in local creative spaces (up to $20,000)

The Grants are for projects to be delivered between July 2020 and 31 December 2020.

Council is also extending the acquittal dates of its current Arts and Culture Grants and Live Music Grants to 31 December 2020.

Further information including guidelines and an online application form are available at: www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au/grants

Council has also created a support page for the local arts and cultural sector, which lists relevant grants, information and resources, including mental health support at www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au/live/living-arts/arts-support-during-covid-19
