2020 Young Creatives Awards winners

Wednesday 9 September 2020

Inner West Library and History has announced who has won 2020 Young Creatives Awards.

Twelve young people were recognised from a record 150 entries this year.

Judges Ursula Dubosarsky, Nadia Wheatley, Dub Leffler and Ronojoy Ghosh all agreed the standard of entries was exceptional.

“The standard of the works was extremely high, so it was enormously pleasurable but it also made the judging very difficult. Everyone should be congratulated,” Ms Dubosarsky said.

“I was blown away and so surprised happy to see such different works,” Mr Ghosh said.

Augustine Flett, who won in the 19-24 years category, said art is his whole life. “I want to be creative for the rest of my life. It doesn’t only give purpose and meaning - my art is purely mine, there are not structures or systems in place that can take that away from me.”

Young Writer winner Lily Cameron’s work was described by Ms Wheatley as, “clever, complex and challenges the reader. On first reading it was great. On second reading, it was brilliant.”

Ms Cameron said her essay was inspired by her mother. “I’m very grateful to be awarded first place,” she said.
