Celebrate NAIDOC week with an immersive digital journey, join the Comic Conversation and entertain the kids with free activities in the Hello Holidays program- all during the month of July.

Speaker series:

  • The Science of the Space Race- Sputnik, Apollo and beyond

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with a captivating talk on space exploration, scientific advancements, the future of humanity in space and the need for exploration with Petr Lebedev.

Enjoy this immersive journey with digital storyteller Brett Leavy, presenting a virtual time capsule depicting Botany Bay at the time of first settlement.

  • The Stoic Theory of Emotions

This philosophy talk with Melissa Merritt aims to examine the stoicism, its underlying psychological commitments and open up discussion about whether stoic apatheia is something we ought to strive for.

  • Poetry, politics and belief

Friends and colleagues of Rae Desmond Jones, the former Mayor of Ashfield, will read from his collection The End of the Line. Well-known poet Les Wicks will read from his latest book Belief.

Dance, storytelling and artefacts are used by Gwenda Stanley to share her unique and rich Aboriginal culture in this fun and engaging show. Suitable for ages 5-12.

  • Drawing workshop with illustrator Dub Leffler

Learn how to draw to convey meaning and emotion as this workshop explores Dub Leffler’s beautiful new book Sorry Day. Suitable for ages 8-12.

Hello Holidays- free school holiday activities at the library:

  • Life of a comic book artist with Rob Feldman

This fun and interactive show will have lots of surprises, audience participation and comedy throughout. Suitable for ages 5-12.
