The Eora Nation team were able to participate in the Nations of Origin Cup with help from Inner West Council in securing club grants.

The Eora Emus, comprised of PCYC Clubs from Marrickville, South Sydney and Glebe took second place in the Rugby League competition out of 35 teams.

Council assisted the team through the ClubGRANTS program in helping to securing funding from Petersham RSL Club and Ashfield RSL Club. Funding was also provided by Club Redfern through assistance from Council’s Aboriginal Programs unit.

The competition has grown over the years with more than 1000 Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people from across the state taking part in the sport, cultural, education and leadership program.

The teams representing 20 Aboriginal Nations participated in Netball, Rugby League and Futsal tournaments in the Port Stephens area.

The PCYC also assisted with the team’s fundraising by auctioning off jerseys signed by the Wests Tigers NRL team.

Senior Constable Tyrina Kurzydlo from Marrickville PCYC thanked Council for supporting the team, “These initiatives cannot be successful unless everyone comes together and I would like to thank Council for being a part of this successful tournament. These young players can now power towards a successful, positive and happy future they now know is possible.”

Council also acknowledges the support from Uncle Derek Wilson from Marrickville Police Local Area Command, who made a special trip to the Cup final with staff from the Aboriginal Programs unit at Inner West Council to cheer on the team.
