Symbiosis at Chrissie Cotter Gallery

The next exhibition at Inner West Council’s Chrissie Cotter Gallery features emerging artists from Was Printed, a fresh printmaking collective.

The title Symbiosis, which describes an organic relationship that is mutually beneficial, was chosen to reflect the collective’s aims to promote collaboration and cross-community interaction.

“Printmaking is dependent upon access to facilities and so has always been a communal art practice,” said Was Printed’s Olivia Wilson.

“Beyond providing emerging artists with a studio space, Was Printed allows artists to engage in each other’s practice on a weekly basis, sharing ideas, seeking advice, shaping, sharpening and energising each other’s work,” she said.

The exhibition will feature etchings, mono-prints, lino prints, woodblock prints, collagraphs and screen-printing on a range of materials: paper, canvas and wax.

Contributing artists will also present a collaborative artwork which will be the feature piece of the show.

Joining Olivia Wilson is Judith Harvey, Anna Russell, Jessica Raymond, Calum Agnew, Rinaldo Hartanto, Stella Chen, Jenny Fitzell, Aibhlinn Stokes, Lou Furne and Rhonda Nelson.

Symbiosis, Chrissie Cotter Gallery, Pidcock Street, Camperdown, Wednesday, 23 May-Sunday, 3 June.

Opening: Wednesday, 23 May, from 6pm.
