Expressions of Interest for EDGE Inner West now open

Thursday, 29 November 2018

Inner West Council is seeking innovative and bold ideas for EDGE GreenWay and EDGE Sydenham, with up to $30,000 available for creative projects to shine a spotlight on the creativity of the inner west.

Creatives, musicians, artists, performers, companies, communities, producers, technicians, and visionaries are all encouraged to apply for commissions ranging from $500 to $30,000.

Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said that it was an ideal opportunity for local artists to realise their dream projects.

“We’re looking for ideas and proposals from all types of artists that will grab the local community’s attention,” he said.

“We want to make the inner west the independent arts capital of Australia, so we want to see applications that experiment, collaborate and think outside the box.

“Through a rolling series of events, activations, light projections, street art projects and music and live performances - across five precincts - we are going to bring the city to us and showcase our existing local creative enterprises to Sydney, Australia and the world.

“The two activations up for grabs right now feature the environment and industry – so there’s a massive range there for ideas.”

Council is encouraging ideas and proposals from all art disciplines, and collaborations and partnerships are welcome to apply for the commissions. Projects that inspire and engage the local community, and activate public or unusual spaces in surprising ways will be preferred.

EDGE Greenway, from Iron Cove to Blackmore Oval, will highlight the Inner West’s natural and creative ecosystems. Art on the GreenWay, Inner West Open Studio Trail and Earth Hour will be incorporated into this event, which will showcase the cluster of 80+ creative studios, and culminate in a performance spectacular that animates the Lilyfield pedestrian bridge.

EDGE Sydenham will spotlight the industrial heritage of the past and the artists, musicians, performers, spaces and venues of the present. It will take in parts of the Inner West Open Studio Trail and SK8 at Sydenham Skate Park, will include live music showcases and street festivals, and raise awareness of creative spaces and studios on industrial lands in Sydenham, Carrington Road, Victoria Road and surrounding areas.

Up to $30,000 is available in funding for innovative and cutting edge creative innovations:
• Major Commissions - up to $30,000 (professional artists, groups or companies with considerable experience and concepts for major visual, performance, musical artworks or installations)
• Gold Commissions - $5,000 to $10,000 (activations, large scale installations, pop-up programs)
• Green Commissions - $500 to $5,000 (talks, workshops, performances, rovers and bands)
