Entries now open for the 2018 GreenWay Art Prize competition

Calling all artists - Entries now open for the 2018 GreenWay Art Prize.

“Now in its ninth year, the GreenWay Art Prize is a much loved prestigious art event which celebrates the Cooks River to Iron Cove GreenWay – our special green corridor through Sydney’s inner west,” Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said.

“The event attracts entries across a range of media including painting, sculpture and photography, and aims to capture the essence of the GreenWay through visual art.

“Artists are invited to submit works that capture the qualities of the GreenWay and celebrate the urban environment, sustainable transport and community connections through visual art.”

This year there is a $10,000 prize pool on offer in the following categories

  • GreenWay Open Art Prize with a prize package valued at $5,000
  • GreenWay Local Artist Prize valued at $1,000 open to all artists living within the Inner West or City of Canterbury-Bankstown areas
  • Cooks River Small Sculpture Prize valued at $2,000
  • GreenWay Community Photography Prize Adult: Winner $500, 2nd place $250, Youth (Under 18), Winner $200, 2nd place $100
  • Derivan People’s Choice Award: $500 worth of Derivan Matisse art supplies


Prize winners will be announced at the opening night of the GreenWay Art Exhibition to be held on Thursday, 8 November at Art Est. Art School and Gallery, Lords Road Leichhardt.

Selected works will then be exhibited as part of a touring exhibition starting at Art Est. Art School (8-20 November 2018), Seaview Gallery, Dulwich High School of Visual Arts and Design (26 November-1 December 2018) and Bankstown Arts Centre (3-18 December 2018).

Judges for the event are Peter Poulet, Government Architect NSW; Anne Ryan, Curator, Australian Art, Art Gallery of NSW; and Caroline Rothwell, Visual Artist.

The GreenWay Art Exhibition is hosted by Art Est. Art School and Gallery in Leichhardt.

Major sponsors of the event are Inner West Council, City of Canterbury Bankstown, Art Est. Art School and Gallery, Cooks River Alliance, Petersham Bowling Club and Derivan, maker of fine artist materials.
