Dog Baiting

Tuesday, 18 September 2018

“I’m very angry and disappointed to hear of the incidents of dog baiting in the inner west. I’m disgusted that any person would endanger dogs and children by leaving poison pellets in very heavily used public open space.

“Dogs have now been poisoned near Le Montage on the Bay Run in Rozelle and in Pioneers Park Leichhardt.

“Council staff are at both sites today undertaking a thorough inspection of the grass and gardens. Inspections began at 6:40am.

“Thankfully no further baits have been found, but all of Council’s parks staff are on high alert to look out for any further baits in any inner west parks.

“We ask the public to be on the lookout as well. If anyone sees any baits they can contact Council and we will collect them immediately.

“Our afterhours service is available 24 hours a day on 9392 5000.

“Council contacted the RSPCA this morning, who confirmed that they had also received a report. Officers are working together to further investigations.

“Leichhardt Local Area Command was also contacted this morning, and advised that they had not yet received any reports. They are awaiting a formal complaint before they can begin investigation. Council will provide any assistance they require.

“We will not tolerate this sort of criminal behaviour in our community.”
