Council savings delivered on cleaning costs

Council has entered into a new tender agreement with three contractors that has streamlined cleaning services across council facilities while delivering recurrent savings budgeted to be almost $600,000 this financial year.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said the agreement follows a comprehensive review of cleaning services delivery across the former Ashfield, Marrickville and Leichhardt Councils.
“These costs savings each year will allow us to put added funds back into improved maintenance of a range of community facilities including our town halls and community centres,” Cr Byrne said.
“The new contracts also set out enhanced environment requirements governing the disposal of hazardous waste and the use of environmentally friendly chemicals.
“It will also deliver an improved and consistent quality of service across all our outdoor public amenities including barbecues, toilet facilities and change rooms at our many parks and sporting grounds.
“We’ve set a $5.5 million savings target for this financial year because there has to be more cost effective services coming out of the amalgamation. This is a good example of ratepayers’ money being saved through more thorough procurement.”
The scope of the new tender work includes daily and periodical cleaning services to Council’s facilities, public amenities and barbecues, grounds maintenance services to a portfolio of child care centres, townhalls and community centres and the daily unlocking and locking of public amenities.
Some of the benefits delivered by the new contracts include:
- Improved risk and safety management framework, reporting requirements & insurance management;
- $585,000 annual saving on current cleaning expenditure;
- Robust environmental requirements including correct disposal of hazardous waste and the use of environmentally friendly chemicals
- Standardised service delivery model across all assets including public amenities, facilities and public barbecues.
The tender was awarded to Jezzini Property Services Pty Ltd, Northern Contract Cleaning Pty Ltd and Servicelink Pty Ltd following an expression of interest process first advertised in April, 2018.
