As part of Art Month, over 100 inner west studios, galleries and ARIs (Artist Run Initiatives) will throw open their doors over two weekends in March.
Council’s IWOST includes free events, tours, exhibitions, artist talks and more.
Opening Night, on Saturday 10 March, 5 - 8pm, takes in the opening of Art on the GreenWay, an ArtCycle bicycle powered cinema, lantern making, Caribbean sounds by DJ Wally, and refreshments.
Attendees are urged to bring a torch for a self-guided tour of the Art on the GreenWay environmental artworks, listen to Art on the GreenWay artist, Elizabeth West, talk about the working in the ‘Environmental Art’ genre, meet the other artists, and then take a night time foraging tour with artist and wild food advocate, Diego Bonetto.
And that’s just the first night. Other highlights from the first weekend include:
• The Darling Street Express: Sydney Bus Museum heritage bus tour of studios in Balmain and Rozelle. (Saturday only. No bookings required. Meet at 9:45am at the Sydney Bus Museum, 25 Derbyshire Street, Leichhardt, for a 10am departure.)
• The Ludwig Leichhardt Express: Sydney Bus Museum heritage bus tour of studios in Leichhardt and Annandale. (Sunday only. No bookings required. Meet at 9:45am at the Sydney Bus Museum, 25 Derbyshire Street, Leichhardt, for a 10am departure.)
• A Millinery High Tea: Participants will create a sculptural headpiece and enjoy a simple high tea. (Saturday 10 March, 11am - 3pm, at Embellish Atelier, 128 Victoria Road, Rozelle. $98 per person.)
• Wildflower weaving workshop: Visit the artist’s studio and learn to make a small basket made of grass and dried wildflowers. Perfect for beginners. Book
• Exhibition: Luscious All Sorts provides a safe space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ artists to express their sexual orientation and communities. Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative, 55-59 Flood Street, Leichhardt, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 March, 11am - 5pm. www.boomalli.com.au
