Our Energy Future launched today

Wednesday 21 June 2017

Inner West Council residents can now receive free energy help and advice from experts, with today’s launch of Our Energy Future (OEF).

Our Energy Future offers recommendations on saving electricity and installing renewable energy technologies like solar panels and batteries, along with referrals to vetted suppliers and products.

Today’s launch is at 107 Projects in Redfern, one of the first beneficiaries of the program.

Jess Cook, Managing Director at 107 Projects, which provides independent art spaces in the inner city, said they recently received an energy audit. “We are…now considering solar which is estimated to reduce our energy bills by up to 50%. As a not-for-profit this will make a huge difference to our organisation,” she said.

Kate Nicolazzo, Manager Positive Charge, the not-for-profit social enterprise that manages the OEF Program said Our Energy Future is already “helping residents, answering phone calls, responding to online enquiries, and providing obligation-free advice and referrals”.

Our Energy Future is a collaboration of Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC) and eight Sydney councils.

President of SSROC Councillor Sally Betts said, “SSROC is delighted to be delivering on our Renewable Energy Master Plan with Our Energy Future, which will significantly increase the amount of renewable energy produced in the Sydney region.”

OEF will soon deliver a roadshow to each of the eight council areas. Other engagements will include face-to-face events, workshops and information sessions, which will provide reliable, independent and interactive advice about solar and energy efficiency.

SSROC General Manager Namoi Dougall said Positive Charge will run Our Energy Future for a 15-month pilot, “With the expectation that it will build momentum and become a permanent offering by SSROC,” she said.

Residents from Inner West Council as well as Bayside, City of Canada Bay, Canterbury-Bankstown City, Georges River, City of Parramatta, Randwick City, and City of Sydney can call Our Energy Future on 1300 339 915 or visit the website.
