Lords Road Planning Proposal public meeting

Thursday 13 July 2017

Inner West Council is urging all residents to attend the State Government’s Central Sydney Planning Panel public meeting on the controversial Lords Road Planning Proposal.

The meeting is at Petersham Town Hall on Thursday 20 July at 5pm.

Council strongly objects to the proposal to rezone one of the last pieces of valuable industrial land in Leichhardt.

“While Council is working cooperatively to implement much of the Parramatta Road Urban Transformation Strategy, we believe this aspect is wrong and would spell the end of a vibrant and diverse piece of employment land,” said Inner West Council Administrator Richard Pearson.

“In particular we think it is contrary to the precautionary approach to the rezoning of employment land in the Greater Sydney Commission’s draft Central District Plan.

“As well, the proposal does not adequately address some other key issues including adequate affordable housing provision, High Hazard Category flooding and the traffic changes WestConnex will bring to the neighbourhood.

“In this light, to rezone Light Industrial land to Medium-High Density Residential is shortsighted and ill-considered. That’s why we’ve written to the Government’s Planning Panel, saying the proposal is badly conceived and would result in extremely poor planning outcomes,” Mr Pearson said.

Anyone wanting to address the meeting must register. Call 02 8217 2060 or email enquiry@planningpanels.nsw.gov.au
