James Morrison returns for Jazz in The Park

Thursday 9 November 2017

Australian Jazz legend James Morrison returns to headline the ever popular Jazz in The Park event at Balmain’s Gladstone Park on Sunday 19 November.

Jazz in the Park offers the local community the chance to hear Australia’s top jazz musicians perform in a comfortable and relaxed setting perfect for a twilight picnic.

James Morrison is known throughout the world for his sheer brilliance as a jazz musician and an all-round entertainer.

Besides the trumpet, this multi-instrumentalist also plays piano, all the brass, saxophones, and double bass. He last headlined Jazz in the Park in 2012.

Now 54, James Morrison’s career thus far has been diverse and perhaps not typical of most jazz musicians. He recorded Jazz Meets the Symphony with The London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lalo Schifrin, performed concerts at the Royal Albert Hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden for Princess Anne.

He has performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and for US Presidents Bush & Clinton at Parliament House in Australia. On International Jazz Day 2016, James was a guest of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House.

The terrific line up for Jazz in the Park this year includes The Ralph Pyl Big Band and Los Gringos as well as a guest appearance by Dale Barlow, one of Australia’s finest Jazz musicians.

Jazz in the Park will begin at 3pm at Balmain’s Gladstone Park and music lovers are encouraged to bring a picnic to this free event that concludes at 6pm.
