Have Your Say on Steel Park inclusive playspace

Thursday 16 November 2017

Construction of Inner West Council’s first inclusive play space will commence in mid-2018.

The playspace, in Marrickville’s Steel Park, will be designed in collaboration with inner west citizens and the Touched by Olivia Foundation (www.touchedbyolivia.com.au), which assists communities to create special places that encourage and invite social inclusion through play.

As part of the improvements, the adjoining, and highly popular and patronised, Waterplay Park will be also be expanded. The facility provides a space where children can watch, experience, manipulate, and be creative with water, with interactive fountains, sprinklers and misty spray elements.

The works are part of the $5 million upgrade of the Cooks River Parklands - a connected series of open spaces that form the northern corridor of the lower Cooks River.

The overall project is funded from Council’s Capital Works budgets and the NSW Stronger Communities Fund. The project also received grant funding from the Australian Government Improving Your Local Parks and Environment Program and Community Development Grants Program.

Upgrade work at Kendrick Park commences in July 2018, while the upgrade of HJ Mahoney Reserve starts in July 2019.
