Dawn Fraser Baths Open Day

The iconic Dawn Fraser Baths is throwing open its doors to the public for a free Open Day on Sunday 10 December.

Everyone’s invited to come and experience the nationally significant facility. Council is the proud custodian of this much-loved community asset - the oldest surviving tidal public baths in Sydney.

‘Dawnie’ is also home to the oldest amateur swimming and water polo club in Australia.

Visitors can look forward to a range of activities including competitions and giveaways, water polo and swim club fundraiser BBQs, games, races, and a sandcastle competition for the kids.

As part of the Open Day, Council will also provide an update on the master plan, a 10-year shared vision for the ongoing conservation of the historic Dawn Fraser Baths precinct.

The master plan will consider the Baths, the Caretaker’s Cottage, access pathways, embankments and car parking areas as well as Elkington Park public toilets.

The first round of community consultation closed earlier in November. Preliminary results will be available to view and discuss at the Open Day.

Further community input on the survey results will be invited, to help form the design brief which is expected for release in 2018.

Dawn Fraser Baths are located in Elkington Park on Fitzroy Avenue, Balmain. Entry is free between 10am – 3pm, Sunday 10 December.

Print quality photos of last year’s event are available on request.
