Celebrate Harmony Day at Carnival of Cultures

Enjoy a wonderful day of free, fun activities and great entertainment for the whole family at this year’s Carnival of Cultures on Sunday 19 March, 10am-4pm at Ashfield Park.

The event will celebrate the many cultures that make up our vibrant inner west community with great cultural performances, delicious food and market stalls and free, fun activities for all ages.

Get your groove on with multi-awarding winning recording artist, Christine Christine Anu, soul sounds by the Kuseah Lawson Trio and tropical dance grooves by Rufino and the Coconuts troupe.

Enjoy a colourful, cultural showcase featuring classical Indian Bharatanatyam, Spanish flamenco, traditional Greek and Chinese-Tibetan dance. Be moved by the rhythm of Korean drumming and the sounds of the15 Stars Cook Islands troupe.

Kids are sure to delight in the multitude of amusements and activities on offer throughout the day. There will be face painting, jumping castles, giant games that include Connect-4 and Lego, an Extreme Obstacle Course and an interactive Australian wildlife display.

Watch your kids unleash their creativity at the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) Young Creatives ArtSpace, with artists offering a range of interactive activities and crafts to be enjoyed by all ages. You can also paint your own boomerang, or join in weaving in the Yarning Circle.

This year the inaugural Makers’ Marquee will showcase local creatives and craft makers. Goods will be on display and available for purchase from The Men’s Shed and others.

Hungry Carnival-goers can feast on international food stalls including fare from Vietnam, Mexico, China, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Italy, Turkey and Thailand.

There will also be barefoot bowling, community displays and information stalls and a free plant give-away for local residents (with proof of address).

Use of public transport to the Carnival is encouraged. A free, accessible shuttle bus will be running regularly from the Ashfield Civic Centre to the event.
