Roads and footpaths get boost in Budget

The Inner West Council has committed $12.5 million in its budget to improve roads and footpaths in the local area, the Administrator of the Inner West Council, Richard Pearson announced today.

Mr Pearson said Council had committed $8 million in its Budget for road works and $4.5 million to repair footpaths in the area.

“Improving local roads and footpaths is a key priority for the Inner West Council,” Mr Pearson said.

“Council has prioritised $12.5 million to transform our local streets and ensure we can carry out necessary repair and renewal works required to improve safety on our roads and enhance our local streetscape.

“The funding will enable Council to implement a program of work to overhaul the condition of the local road network which is under constant stress from general day to day wear and tear.”

Under the 2016/17 road re-sheeting program work will be carried out to streets or sections of streets throughout the local area including:

Albany Road Stanmore, Darley Street Marrickville, Caroline Lane St Peters, John Street Tempe,
Bridge Road Stanmore, Renwick Street Marrickville, Norton Street Ashfield, Darling Street Balmain, Flood Street Leichhardt, Evans Street Rozelle, and Percival Street Lilyfield.

Council has earmarked a further $4.5 million as part of its ongoing infrastructure renewal program to repair footpaths or sections of footpath on streets including:

Don Street Newtown, Albany Road Stanmore , Simmons Street Newtown, Union Street Tempe, Australia Street Camperdown, Denning Street Petersham, Elliott Street Balmain, Cromwell and Tebbutt Streets Leichhardt, College Street and Breillat Street Annandale and relay paving in Ashfield CBD Liverpool Road, Darling Street and Marion Street.
