Norton Street Italian Festa Celebrates its 30th Year

Now in its 30th year, Norton Street on Sunday 30 October will once again be home to the carnival of the Italian influenced good life that is the Norton Street Italian Festa.

People come to ‘Festa’ from all over Sydney to celebrate the enduring Leichhardt connection to its Italian influenced heritage over many generations and to celebrate everything Italian with a love of food always a central part of the event.

Crowds of around 100,000 annually descend on Leichhardt as the people take over Norton Street while it is closed to traffic from Marion to William Streets.

As always, the event features hundreds of stalls and non-stop entertainment for all ages will also be on offer from 10am till 5pm along the famous Leichhardt main street.

This year’s cooking marquee will focus on regional Italian cooking where festival goers can chat with the chefs and learn the secrets of Italian cooking.

In addition to great local Italian chefs, Paolo Gatto and Christian Colognesi will cook regional Italian dishes from all over Italy, Luke and Scott of My Kitchen Rules fame will demonstrate Italian food ‘clean living’ style, and Silvia Colloca from upcoming Made in Italy on SBS will prepare a family favourite dish from Abruzzo.

‘The Nonnas’ will also cook their home made dishes in the ‘Nonni in Cucina’ and share the food amongst the lucky onlookers.

A fun day all out for the whole family, Festa will again feature carnival rides, jumping castles, animal farms, stilt walkers, face painting and puppet shows for the kids, organic markets, entertainment, concerts and dancing.

The day will also play host to the largest collection of vintage, classic and contemporary Italian Motor Cars and bikes ever assembled in NSW.

Festival goers are encouraged to take public transport to the event with the Leichhardt North light rail stop just a short stroll away.

Festa is sponsored by Inner West Council, delivered by the Leichhardt Annandale Chamber of Commerce, produced by Impact Exhibitions.
