FREE child car restraint checks

Inner West Council is teaming up with Kidsafe NSW and Transurban to offer FREE car seat safety checks during National Road Safety Week on Wednesday 8 May from 10am to 2pm at the Leichhardt Marketplace Carpark - Corner Marion and Flood Streets Leichhardt.

Inner West Council in partnership with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) provides FREE child restraint checks or installations by RMS authorised restraint fitters to ensure that our youngest residents are secured in the correct child car seat for their age and size.

Council provides FREE vouchers to be used on a designated day. This is a mobile service to your home, provided bi-monthly and voucher numbers are limited and subject to funding being continued by TfNSW.

Next dates

Vouchers will cover the cost of the check or installation. Any parts or accessories will be at your expense.

Applications are restricted to Inner West Council residents only. Booking terms and conditions apply.

If you do not live in the Inner West Council area, or are unavailable on the designated days, find your nearest authorised restraint fitting station at the NSW Centre for Road Safety website.

Australian law requires children travelling in cars to be secured in approved restraints, which means children:

• younger than 6 months must be secured in a rear-facing restraint
• 6 months to 4 years must be secured in a rear or forward-facing restraint
• 4 to 7 years must be secured in a forward-facing restraint or booster seat
• younger than 4 years must travel in the back seat of a vehicle with 2 or more rows.
