Next free child restraint safety check

Inner west parents and carers can check that their child car restraints, harnesses and booster seats are correctly fitted as part of Council's road safety program.

Child car restraints will be checked by an RMS-authorised restraint fitter.

Forty seven motor vehicle passengers aged 16 and under were injured in the Inner West Council area over the five year period from 2011-2015.*

It’s estimated that over three-quarters of all child car seats could be fitted incorrectly. As well, many children are using car restraints and seats that are not suited to their age and size.

A properly-fitted restraint can improve a child's chances of surviving a serious crash by up to 50 per cent.

Council’s free safety check will give parents and carers in the local government area an opportunity to ensure that their child’s car seat is correctly fitted, and that the restraint meets the Standards Australia requirements.

An RMS-authorised restraint fitter will be on hand to check the correct fit of:

  • child car restraints
  • harnesses
  • booster seats
Council’s free child restraint safety check day is on Tuesday 22 November at the Woolworths Car Park, 463 Illawarra Road Marrickville South between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Bookings are essential. Email christina.ip@innerwest.nsw.gov.au or call 9335 2213.
