ew Parking Permits Due by 1 September

Former Leichhardt Council residents have until the end of this month to renew their residential parking permit for the new 2016-18 period.

Following a four month extension period, new permits must be on display in parked cars by 1 September.

Parking permit applications can now be submitted online, as well as the traditional hard copy form.

The online parking permit applications make it quicker and easier for residents to apply. It is part of Council's commitment to delivering innovative and environmentally sustainable services.

The renewal of 2014-2016 permits has been underway since February with those permits originally due to expire on 30 April.

A four month grace period was extended to allow residents more time to gain the new permits with a high number of applications received during this period.

Council uses permit parking to manage the availability of on-street parking spaces in areas where there is high competition for those spaces. This includes areas close to commercial centres, shopping centres and public transport stops.

The permits allow residents who live in eligible properties across the former Leichhardt local government area to park beyond the time limit shown on the signs.

Typical parking restrictions are two hours, whilst some have four hour limits. Other areas have a combination of two and four hours depending on the time of day. Residents and businesses with the correct permits have unrestricted parking.

The new online parking permit application process will streamline the data record keeping process for Council.
