Balmain to Shine on Weekend of Jazz

Australian Jazz musicians Steve Clisby, Emma Pask, Dale Barlow as well as the Sirens Big Band will bring Balmain alive to the sound of Jazz on the last weekend of November.

The debut of ‘Balmain’s Weekend of Jazz’ event features music in the streets, bars, pubs and cafes of the colourful suburb on November 26 and 27.

It will start from 10am on both Saturday and Sunday running into the early evening at multiple indoor and outdoor venues including Balmain Town Hall and Loyalty Square.

The weekend will culminate in the biannual Jazz in The Park twilight concert that on Sunday 27 November at Gladstone Park.

Jazz in The Park has long been part of Council’s enormously popular Sunset Series, a series of twilight concerts offering the community the chance to hear Australia’s top musicians perform in the comfortable and relaxed environs in some of the Inner West’s most beautiful settings.

This year’s event is set to give the Inner West community a taste of what Australia’s very own jazz scene has to offer.

Australian Jazz musicians Emma Pask, Dale Barlow and the Sirens Big Band will be feature acts while headlining this year’s Jazz in the Park is Australian based international star Steve Clisby.

Steve grew up as a young black man in a largely segregated 1950s America creating an unlikely life for himself bringing soul music to Europe.

He has held on to a love of jazz to carve out a 50 year career, including reaching the semi-finals of US TV juggernaut ‘The Voice’ captivating a nationwide fan base.

‘Jazz in the Park’ will begin at 4pm at Balmain’s Gladstone Park and music lovers are encouraged to bring a picnic to this free event that concludes at 7pm.
