Vic on the Park car park

There are erroneous reports that Inner West Council has disallowed Vic on the Park from permanently using their car park as an outdoor eating and entertainment area.

Council is currently assessing the application.

Presently, Vic on the Park has permission to use the car parking area as dining and entertainment for six days a year between the hours of 10.00am to 6.00pm.

Their application is seeking a permanent change to use the car park for dining and entertainment until 12.30am (the following day) Mondays to Tuesdays, 2.30am Wednesdays to Saturdays (the following day) and 10.00pm on Sundays with a capacity of 400 patrons. This patron capacity is in addition to the patron capacity of the venue.

Council is concerned this could have negative noise and traffic impacts for local residents and is liaising with the applicant to address the issues and reach a suitable outcome.

In August, Council voted to make it easier for businesses to use public spaces such as car parks for outdoor dining and live performance as part of its COVID-19 recovery plans. See more here:

Recent NSW Government planning changes

You can find details about the recent NSW Government planning changes to permanently enable pubs and small bars across the state to implement outdoor dining as exempt development.

The new state government amendments to the SEPP (Exempt and Complying Development Codes 2008) do not affect the Vic on the Park’s development application.

The SEPP allows for the use of private areas for the purpose of outdoor dining, however amendments do not extend to increasing patronage numbers, nor changes to current permitted hours.
