EOIs now open for community spaces at Summer Hill and Steel Park

Summer Hill Neighbourhood Centre - (EOI 2-21)

Council is calling for Expressions of Interest to manage and operate the Summer Hill Neighbourhood Centre at 131 Smith St, Summer Hill

The venue is centrally located in close proximity to the Summer Hill village and the Summer Hill train station. The venue sits within the grounds of the Darrell Jackson Gardens which includes a skate park, children’s play area, tennis courts, BBQs and a picnic area.

Suitably qualified and experienced community-based organisations are invited to present a proposal that would include the leasing of the building for the purposes of management and delivery of the Summer Hill Neighbourhood Centre

Inner West Council undertook community engagement end 2020 in relation to the Neighbourhood Centre. Community feedback suggests that :

o residents overwhelmingly want a neighbourhood centre that is multi-purpose in terms of community programs and services
o general community space for meetings, activities and events
o Also strong support for the Centre to provide specialist social support services (including for vulnerable people) and a place for specialist arts, recreation and cultural activities

Council will consider all interest through assessment of a criteria identified in the Expression of Interest document.

Community organisations working as a coalition are encouraged to apply.

Steel Park Community Rooms - (EOI 4-21)

Council is calling for Expressions of Interest to operate the Steel Park Community Rooms at 2 Thornley Street, Marrickville

This facility contributes to a suite of buildings on this site and immediately adjacent to Steel Park, including the PCYC (The Debbie and Abbey Borgia Recreation Centre) and newly opened childcare centre (Yirran Gumal Early Learning Centre). An existing carpark is shared by the facilities

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander friendly organisations are invited to present a proposal that would include the leasing of all or part of the community rooms

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander friendly organisations are invited to present proposals for The Steel Park Community rooms to:

o Provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive meeting place for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of the inner west

o Where appropriate, provide access to services and programs for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community

o Support capacity building within the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community

o Where appropriate provide a launch point for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community programs, outreach providers, start-up businesses groups, services and initiatives that connect to the people of Inner West Local Government Area

Council will consider all interest through assessment of a criteria identified in the Expression of Interest document.
