Child safety

Inner West Council has pleaded guilty to historical matters concerning Stanmore Out of School Hours Care Service (OOSHC) and has received a fine of $10,000.

The matters date back to 2018 when there were two incidents. Staff submitted the incident notifications to the Department of Education.

Immediate steps were taken at the time to avoid any recurrence. Council is also implementing a Child Safe Framework across all our functions, a commitment to be child safety leaders in the community.

Some of the main features of the Framework are:

  • Ensure Council meets legislative requirements for child safety, embeds the Child Safe Standards and demonstrates leading practice
  • Implement the Inner West Council Child Safe Program, including prioritising development of the Child Safe Protocol and Child Safe Training Program
  • Develop and implement resources and tools to ensure child protection risks are mitigated
