Cane toad found at Tempe Reserve

On Tuesday, Council officers were alerted to the presence of a cane toad at Tempe Reserve.

The male toad was captured and euthanised.

Searches have not found evidence of other cane toads in the area. This is a biosecurity issue so investigations are continuing with NSW Government’s Local Land Services.

It is not the first time a cane toad has been found in Sydney.

Council believes this toad was a lone individual, possibly transported to the area via some kind of cargo from northern areas of the state or even Queensland.

Council is asking all residents and visitors to Tempe Reserve, especially dog walkers, to be observant and to alert Council of any suspected cane toad activity. Please call Council on 02 9392 5000.

Any further information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
