Community Garden
by Hugues Sineux, 2017
194 Denison Road, Dulwich Hill

Inner West Council acknowledges the traditional custodians of these lands, the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation.

This mural, housed within a community garden, is 6 metres wide by 3 metres high.

On the plain white wall a federation styled house with high arched windows is drawn in neat black lines.

In front to the right of the house is a small weatherboard timber shed with a corrugated iron roof. In stark contrast to the black and white drawn house and shed, geometric shapes are placed randomly throughout the mural. The shapes run across and over the black lines like wide brush strokes lifting the mural in colours of orange, red, blue, lemon and green.

At the front of the shed are two panelled windows above a mantle stacked up with pots. Below the window a bicycle leans against a wall. The door to the shed is open. To the left of the shed, in front of the mural itself, a small garden extends out scalloped into the weathered pavers. Plants grow in the soil of the garden, interspersed with plants in large pots.

This artwork was commissioned by Inner West Council through Perfect Match, a program matching artists with community to collaboratively produce site specific street art.
