Pay by Plate (PbP) Parking Meters

Parking meters are an important tool to enable Council to manage parking demand and optimise turnover in areas where demand is high, primarily in and around major commercial centres. Where parking meters are in streets covered by PPSs, permit holders are exempt from meter charges. Council will continue to ensure parking meter charges are modest and are generally matched to parking demand. Whilst the predominant purpose of parking meters is to manage parking, meter revenue could also used to fund streetscape improvements and other works that benefit the community.

Report parking meter faults

We appreciate when you let us know about faulty parking meters. This ensures that they are repaired in a timely manner. You can report a parking meter fault by calling 02 9432 0599.

You can report reoccurring faults using the below form.

If a parking meter is not working or non-cash payments are unsuccessful, you are required to attempt the transaction at an adjacent parking meter or pay by coins in order to obtain and display a valid ticket.

Parking meter rates

Parking meter rates vary depending on the street and suburb. Please refer to the parking signs and follow instructions on parking meters. A number of parking meters have 30 minute free parking tickets.

*A reduce rate of $2.30 is applicable for side street parking meters after the first two hours.

**A rate of $5.60 applies to parking on King Street between Mary Street and Church street between 10am and 3.30pm.

Duplicate credit card transactions

Occasionally failed transactions with a parking meter will appear on your bank statement as a "pending" transaction (or similar) until the bank can confirm the transaction failed.

This looks like a duplicate transaction next to the successful transaction on your bank statement.

Once the bank has receives confirmation, the money will be released.  This can take up to 5 working days.
