Next exhibition at Chrissie Cotter Gallery

An exhibition based on the artist’s observations during a four month sojourn through outback Australia opens at Council’s Chrissie Cotter Gallery later this month.

Up The Guts reflects Zak Tilley’s experiences travelling through central NSW, central Australia, the Top End and across to the East Kimberley region.

Equipped with a compact gouache set and pads of paper, Zak sought to depict “dry-riverbeds, displaying the thirst of the Red-River Gums in a dry oasis in the middle of red plains, landscapes containing native birds and mammals, to the lush wetlands of northern Kakadu against white ash burnt country displaying tradition fire management practices of the Bininj people.”

The plein air studies portray his “experiences as a witness to the contrast and diversity of the isolated landscapes, the community and diversity of people and both the joy and issues this connection creates.”

Exhibition: Up The Guts, Chrissie Cotter Gallery, Pidcock Street, Camperdown. Wednesday 28 March–Sunday 9 April.

Exhibition opens Wednesday 28 March, 6pm–8pm.
