Big Bike Week Rides Back Into Inner West

Thursday 31 August 2017

The second Inner West Big Bike Week will feature free workshops and events across the new Inner West Council local government area to celebrate NSW Bike Week in September.

Starting Sunday 10 September with a preview event, Inner West Big Bike Week will build to Big Bike Day to be held at War Memorial Park in Lilyfield from 11am to 2pm on Sunday 24 September.

Big Bike Day is for both avid and casual bike riders of all ages. Along with a guided 6km group ride leaving War Memorial Park at 11:30am, there will be obstacle courses, skills workshops, rock climbing, face painting, pedal-powered smoothies and a free lunch.

For more experienced cyclists, Bike Leichhardt will be guiding a 15km ride around Balmain on Sunday 24 September from 8:30am, arriving at the Big Bike Day festival in War Memorial Park by 11:30am to join the festivities.

Sunday 17 September will feature a City Cycle Confidence Course from 9am to 1:30pm at Whites Creek Valley Park in Annandale, designed for all those who know how to ride a bike but want more experience riding on the road and for safer cycling across the city. Registrations are required via the Council website.

There will be a Bicycle Maintenance Workshop at Bastable Street Hall the week prior on Sunday 10 September from 9am to 1:30pm with each rider needing to bring their own bike and be willing to work on it. Participants will learn the basics of caring for their bike, including putting air in the tyres, cleaning the chain, adjusting brakes and changing and repairing tubes. Registrations are required.

NSW Bike Week (16-24 September) is the annual statewide festival that celebrates all things bicycle-related and active lifestyles.
