Rates hardship

Ratepayers experiencing financial hardship may apply to defer payment of rates.

Council will support residential and business ratepayers who are experiencing hardship and cannot pay their rates in full or by instalment. We will work with you to consider a suitable deferral period and payment arrangement on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.

Eligible ratepayers can defer their rates for an agreed period of time, with a repayment plan of up to 12 months to commence after this agreed deferral period.

No interest will be charged on outstanding balances where a Hardship Deferred Payment Plan is in place, and repayments are made as agreed. Ratepayers should contact Council if their circumstances change, and the repayment plan cannot be maintained.

How do I apply?

Complete the below hardship application form and submit:

  • by email – rates@innerwest.nsw.gov.au
  • by post – Attention: Rates Manager, Inner West Council – PO Box 14, Petersham, NSW 2049
