A large welfare charity, operating 2 shelters and 14 volunteer branches across NSW. It also works together with government to review and develop legislation relating to animal welfare.

 

Australian Animal Poisons Centre 

A specialist service for poisoned animals, free for pet owners. Call 1300 TOX PET (1300 869 738).

 

Cat Fanciers Association NSW
Australia's largest feline registering association.

 

Cat Protection Society

An independent, non-profit group promoting responsible cat ownership and the re-homing of unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens.

 

Dogs NSW (formerly NSW Canine Council)
A non-profit organisation that aims to promote canine research, responsible breeding practices and responsible dog ownership.

 

NSW Pet Registry

This website is managed by the Office of Local Government. A database of microchipped and lifetime registered cats and dogs that live in NSW. Pet owners can create a profile for their pet and update contact details at any time online. Pay your pet's once-off lifetime registration payment online or pay annual permit fees for non-desexed cats and dangerous and restricted dogs.

 

NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service (WIRES)
A not-for-profit charity providing native animal rescue services through a network of volunteers. WIRES is the largest wildlife rescue organisation in Australia, and is licensed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Their webpage includes information on current issues, and contact details for their wildlife rescue call centre.

 

Office of Local Government - Dogs and Cats

General information for dog and cat owners, as well as specific information relating to restricted and dangerous dogs in NSW. Includes translations in several languages.

 

Pets in the Park

A national charity focused on the veterinary health and welfare of companion animals, and wellbeing of their owners while experiencing homelessness.

 

Project Hope

Founded by Southern Cross Vet in 2016, Project HoPe (Homeless Pets) operates with a vision to vaccinate every homeless pet and provide access to veterinary services for people experiencing homelessness.

 

RSPCA NSW
Australia's largest animal welfare organisation. It operates several branches and shelters, veterinary clinics, investigates complaints of animal cruelty, and works to promote responsible pet ownership and humanity towards animals.
 

Sydney Dogs and Cats Home
A registered charity with a goal to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy, loving cats and dogs and find them new homes which will last a life time'.

If you have found injured wildlife, keep the animal contained, warm, quiet and undisturbed. Do not offer any food or water.

Companion Animal Pop Up Information Stand

Join our Inner West Pets community! Providing pet-related information for pet owners, prospective pet owners and the general public in the inner west suburbs of Sydney. The Companion Animal Information Stand moves around our local parks. The stand offers a variety of companion animal related information, services and free giveaways such as:

  • Have your pet's microchip scanned to check it's functioning correctly

  • Check that you and your pet's information is up-to-date on the NSW Companion Animal Register

  • Ask Companion Animal Services staff all your companion animal related questions

  • Free Inner West Council pet related giveaways

  • Responsible pet ownership pamphlets and fact sheets

  • Free pats for all dogs
