Dance Through the Decades

The Wriggle Room in Marrickville is a funky space for people looking to learn something new, move their body, or perhaps needing some extra space to work on a creative project.  We run evening dance classes and weekend workshops of vintage dance styles, as well as small group sewing workshops and second-hand clothing markets.
Join the Wriggle Room team at Dulwich Hill Festival for a pop-up dance class! Try your hand (and your feet) at the Charleston, Swing, Rock 'n' Roll or Rockabilly. No experience necessary, and no partner needed!

Traditional Punch and Judy puppet stage - close up of two puppets

Professor Peabody's Puppets

Professor Peabody's Puppets have been performing for over five years, bringing the traditional Punch and Judy show to life in the 21st Century. Performed in a traditional red and white striped booth, with audience participation and heckling strongly encouraged, this is classic live entertainment for all ages, with no parental advisory warnings whatsoever. If you have a vague notion that Punch and Judy might be unsuitable for modern audiences, think again. Punch always moves with the times!  The best thing about this show is how much children, fed on a diet of screens and swipes and taps, become so joyfully engaged with something that is real, right there in front of them, and keen for them to join in. Long Live Puppetry!

Sewing Stories: Stitch & share your Dully memories

Join local Inner West artists Nicole Barakat and Cameron Stead for a drop-in workshop to create a collaborative large-scale embroidered artwork, sharing stories of people, places and memories of Dulwich Hill.

Participants are invited to stitch and draw their stories with thread into a large mesh screen using colourful yarn and reused textiles. The artwork will evolve throughout the duration of the festival, creating a vibrant artwork that reflects the local community’s stories of Dulwich Hill. Participants will also have the option to create a small, stitched artwork to take home.

Share stories, relax and connect with your community while learning new skills and techniques in sewing and embroidery.
