2016 Business Environment Awards Winners
The 2016 Inner West Business Environment Awards were held on Tuesday 29 November 2016. The awards recognise local businesses for actions to be more sustainable. More than 20 local businesses were recognised as winners or finalists in the seven award categories.
The 2016 event featured inspiring guest speeches from Jason McDermott, Co-founder of Dresden Optics; and Angela Michaelis of local environmental advocacy group, Climate Change Balmain-Rozelle.

Sustainability Leadership Award
For actions over a range of initiatives and taking a holistic view of sustainability.
Winner
For their valuable contribution to waste reduction, skills development and community collaboration. The Bower continues to demonstrate continual improvement and looks beyond resource savings.

Sustainable Innovation Award
For exploring new and creative solutions to sustainability opportunities.
Winner
For their innovative educational project ‘Replay’. Providing waste education resources and workshops for educators, they have so far engaged with almost 9,000 young children in the community, pushing for a shift towards better waste behaviour.

Water Saver Award
For water efficiency, rainwater tanks and water sensitive urban design.
Winner
The theatre recently connected their three large rainwater tanks to flush six onsite toilets and most sinks as part of their on-going eco-plan.

Rethink Waste Award
For avoiding, reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
Winner
The salons are part of the Sustainable Salons initiative, and are taking a sustainable approach in their product choice, and recycling 90% of their waste.

Energy Smart
For energy efficiency of gas and electricity and renewable energy.

For installing LED lighting, upgrading their air-conditioner, and currently investigating solar panel installation.
